Bing Places is the second listing worth having. Bing has its own audience, its index also carries into Yahoo and Microsoft's assistant surfaces, and once the listing exists it can keep itself in sync with Google. The setup takes about ten minutes plus a verification code, and it is free.
Five things in the right order, and the actual form takes minutes. Missing any of them is what turns a ten minute job into a week of back and forth.
Your Google Business Profile is published and verified. The import pulls from it, so a pending profile means nothing to import.
Your exact business name, address, and phone written down once. Every field you type has to match that copy character for character.
Your categories decided in advance: one primary and two or three secondary, chosen from what the directory actually offers.
Your service areas listed by city, plus whether you serve remotely.
A short list of landing pages, so the profile does not point at your homepage for everything.
The Six Steps
Work through them one at a time and do not save until each field matches your template exactly.
1
Sign in with a Microsoft account
Go to bingplaces.com and sign in with a Microsoft account. Your business email works and is the better choice, because it keeps the listing tied to the company rather than to one person's personal login.
If you already use Outlook, Xbox, or Azure, you already have an account and do not need to create one.
2
Import from Google Business Profile
On the dashboard choose the Google Business Profile import, sign into your Google account, and pick your listing. Bing pulls in the name, address, phone, hours, photos, and description automatically, which saves most of the typing and avoids the typos that break citations.
If the import does not find your listing, your Google profile is probably still pending verification, or it is verified under a different Google account.
3
Correct what Bing got wrong or left out
The import is a starting point, not a finished listing. Compare every field against your own template before you save: the primary category, the secondary categories, the service areas, the hours, the website, and the landing pages. Directories weight the primary category heavily, so getting that one right matters more than any other single field.
Add real photos here if the import carried none. A listing with no photos gets noticeably fewer clicks than the one beside it with ten.
4
Verify the listing
Bing usually offers phone or text verification to the business number, and that code arrives in seconds. If Bing only offers postal mail, accept it rather than abandoning the listing, but first confirm the address is entered exactly as it should be, because the postcard goes to that street and suite number and takes one to two weeks.
Once verified, the listing typically appears within minutes to 48 hours.
5
Get the listing URL
Open the listing in Bing Maps, search your business name, and copy the URL from the browser address bar. Keep the dashboard URL as well, since citation tools usually read that one. Store both in your submission log the same day.
Do not save a search results URL. It has to be the URL of your listing itself.
6
Put the URL to work
A verified listing only helps when your own site points at it. Add the URL to your listings page, your footer, and your business structured data, so search engines read the listing and the website as the same company rather than two unrelated records.
Bing can also keep syncing from Google afterward, so review and hour changes carry across on their own.
What Usually Goes Wrong
Four problems account for almost every stuck Bing listing, and all four are fixable without starting over.
Verification only offers postal mail
This usually means the address is new to Bing or looks like a shared office. Accept the postcard, but check the suite number first. A mailing address with a suite that does not match your Google profile will fail on both services.
Two listings exist for the business
Importing often leaves a duplicate that Bing had already created from a directory feed. Claim the correct one and request the duplicate be removed, otherwise reviews and prominence split across two records.
The category list has no exact match
Bing's taxonomy is smaller than Google's. Pick the closest available primary category and use the secondary categories to cover the rest, rather than choosing something misleadingly broad.
Only the homepage is linked
Rotate the landing pages across your listings so each profile supports a different search. Ten listings all pointing at the homepage is one page getting help, ten listings pointing at different pages is a whole site getting it.
